Why is household dust more than dead skin?
Household dust is a mixture with a history. Some particles originate indoors; others arrive from outside, and activity can move settled material back into the air. A sample from a shelf need not match one near a doorway. Even “most of the dust” needs a definition: the largest share by mass may differ from the largest share by particle count.
