AI and your recordings
Does speaking.app use my recordings to train AI?
Short answer: your recordings, transcripts, and AI outputs are not used to train third-party or general-purpose AI models. We may still review a sample of recordings internally to improve our feedback quality, and your data is processed to generate your feedback and run the Service, as described below and in our Privacy Policy.
This page is a plain-language summary of how we handle your recordings and AI. It is not a replacement for our Privacy Policy, which is the authoritative document. If anything here is unclear or seems to conflict with the Privacy Policy, the Privacy Policy governs.
Do you use my recordings to train AI models?
No, not to train third-party or general-purpose AI models. Your audio, transcripts, and AI outputs are not used to train or fine-tune the models of the third-party providers that power the Service; we configure our AI integrations, or rely on their default API terms, to that effect, and those providers may still process your data as needed to provide the service you requested, keep it secure, prevent abuse, or comply with law. We may still use recordings internally to review and improve the quality of the feedback the Service produces, as described below and in our Privacy Policy.
What about the transcription and AI providers you use?
To turn a recording into feedback, your audio and transcript are shared with processors: a speech-to-text provider, a voice-and-prosody analysis provider, and an AI-feedback provider. They process your data under contract to provide the Service, and as needed to keep it secure, prevent abuse, or comply with law, and are configured (or operate by default) so that your inputs and outputs are not used to train or fine-tune their models. Several of these providers are in the United States, so although your recordings are stored in the European Economic Area, some processing happens in the US under the EU Standard Contractual Clauses. The full list of providers, what each one receives, and the transfer safeguards are in our Privacy Policy.
Does anyone at speaking.app listen to my recordings?
Potentially, yes. speaking.app is run by one person, the founder, who has administrative access to the Service and can in principle access any data stored in it, including recordings and transcripts. In practice that access is used to operate and support the Service (for example, to debug a failed transcription or answer a support request) and to review a sample of recordings, transcripts, and AI outputs to improve feedback quality. The founder does not review every recording, and access is logged at the infrastructure level. If you join a cohort via an invite code, the coach for that cohort can also play back your recordings and read your transcripts. You can email hello@speaking.app to be excluded from the quality-improvement review going forward; that does not remove operational, support, or coach access, which are covered in our Privacy Policy.
Do you use my voice to identify me?
No. We do not use voice recordings for biometric identification, speaker recognition, or authentication, and we do not try to identify you from your voice.
Do you sell my data?
No. We do not sell your personal data.
Can I delete my recordings, or opt out of internal review?
Yes. You can delete individual recordings at any time, or delete your account, which hard-deletes all audio recordings associated with your account from our live systems; copies may persist for a limited period in encrypted backups, according to the backup cycles of our infrastructure providers, before routine rotation overwrites them. You can also email hello@speaking.app to be excluded from the internal quality-improvement review described above (this does not remove operational, support, or coach access). Deletion and retention are described in full in our Privacy Policy.
Do AI outputs make decisions about me?
No. AI outputs are feedback and educational tools only. We do not use automated processing to make decisions that produce legal or similarly significant effects on you, and AI outputs do not determine your access to the Service, your account status, or any legal entitlement.
