Why does pulling in your arms speed up a spin?
A spinning skater can change how their mass is distributed around the rotation axis. With little external torque, pulling inward can increase angular speed while the skater's muscular work also changes rotational energy.
Questions you could explore
- Why can angular momentum remain nearly constant while kinetic energy increases?
