Why can't a microscope just keep zooming in?
Making a blurry image bigger does not reveal what the blur has hidden. In an ordinary light microscope, light from two nearby points spreads into overlapping patterns, so magnification and resolution are different limits.
Questions you could explore
- How do wavelength and the light collected by the lens affect whether two points remain distinguishable?
