How does a plant hitch a ride on an animal?
Walk through tall grass with a dog or wool socks, and hooked plant fruits may come along for the ride. Burdock burrs and the small fruits of cleavers can catch on fur or clothing, carrying seeds away from the parent plant. Attachment, transport, and eventual release are separate stages of the journey.
