Why can two chess wins earn different rating points?
Winning a chess game does not always produce the same rating gain. FIDE’s standard rating calculation compares the game score with an expected score based on the rating difference, then applies a development coefficient. Expected score includes the possibility of a draw, so it should not be read as win probability alone.
